Spotlight on Hiraku

We put together an introductory breakdown on vibe coding; covering its pros, cons, and best practices based on community insights and personal experience.

Vibe Coding Explained: What It Is, Pros & Cons, and Best Practices
Vibe coding is an emerging trend of building with AI through prompting. We explore its pros, cons, and essential best practices.

Product Testing

Gemini 2.0 Canvas

We checked Gemini 2.0's canvas for rapid portfolio page prototyping. Our initial attempt, using a basic prompt, yielded a satisfactory starting point. However, subsequent refinement prompts failed to produce any visible changes. Seeking to improve results with a more detailed initial prompt, we initiated a fresh canvas. Unfortunately, this second attempt resulted in a complete failure to load any preview, hindering further development.

Hart

We evaluated MIT/NVIDIA's HART model, touted for its rapid, high-quality image generation. While its speed is undeniable, our testing revealed image quality that doesn't match the claims, falling significantly behind established models like Flux 1 dev. Its efficiency is notable, but the visual output requires further refinement.

OpenAI.fm

We tried OpenAI.fm's text-to-speech capabilities and were genuinely impressed. The generated voices are remarkably natural and nuanced, exceeding our expectations. The output surpasses the believability of many video game voice acting performances, exhibiting a level of organic delivery that's truly compelling.

Insights from Hiraku R&D

As you may know, over the past few months we’ve been deep in the zone, vibe-coding our way through 2 large-scale projects. While those are still in the works, we’re now also shifting some focus toward quick, small-scale builds, so we can share cool stuff with you more often.

On the large-scale side of things, it looks like we'll be ready to launch our Expo mobile app, built with Bolt and Cursor, on iOS and Android by late April or early May.

Showcase from Hiraku R&D

For this week, we've prepared a custom hackathon landing page, built entirely with Bolt from scratch in roughly 5 hours. This is something we plan to polish and share our workflow for. However, the current version is ready to check out on Netlify (link below).
